Recently, Oricon has released a ranking of the best-selling manga in Japan for the first half of 2016. According to this ranking, One Piece continues to hold the top position as the reigning champion of manga sales in Japan.
However, many analysts suggest that this year, One Piece has seen a decline in sales compared to previous years, with approximately 6.5 million copies sold. This figure puts it significantly ahead of the second place, which is Assassination Classroom.
If you have been following last year’s manga sales rankings, you will notice that One Piece consistently achieved sales far exceeding those of the second-place title. Therefore, the fact that One Piece only recorded sales of 6 million copies and is only slightly ahead of the second place this year indicates a decline in its popularity.
Another noteworthy title is Attack on Titan, which has dramatically dropped from first place to third place this year, with sales lower than even Assassination Classroom. After a considerable period of strong performance, Attack on Titan has started to show signs of waning popularity.
