Based on a popular webtoon, the science fiction horror series Duty After School is currently generating a lot of anticipation among viewers. From the first images released, the film has been depicted with a powerful atmosphere reminiscent of a bombshell thriller, The Silent Sea on Netflix. Both films revolve around the survival battle of students against “monsters” that are not human.
If in The Silent Sea, zombies are the most dangerous threat, in Duty After School, students must fight against extraterrestrial forces. The film is set against the backdrop of a secret invasion of Earth by aliens. The Ministry of National Defense has launched recruitment campaigns for universities to draw students into military service, which then transforms them into elite soldiers. Faced with this situation, students are deeply confused, as the university entrance examination has suddenly morphed into a survival battle they must participate in.
Similarly, The Silent Sea is a series that gathers a full cast of talented actors, without any “star power” to attract viewers. Therefore, the production team has invested significantly in the film’s visual quality to keep viewers engaged. The creators of Duty After School have made a bold decision to enhance the cinematic experience, allowing viewers to feel the tension and excitement from the storyline. The unique approach of the film is also a highlight, as it explores the moral dilemmas that characters face amidst an alien threat that they are largely unaware of.
And although there is no “star power,” viewers are still eagerly anticipating the appearance of the talented cast members including Moon Sang Min, Kim Ki Hae, Choi Moon Hee, Kim Su Gyeom, Yeo Joo Ha, Lee Yeon, Kwon Eun Bin, etc. Duty After School promises to highlight the diverse personalities of these soldiers, allowing the audience to experience the confusion, despair, and intense will to survive among the high school students who find themselves “thrown” into a survival game overnight. Alongside them, the soldiers and teachers represent the “older generation” who also rush into the battle to protect their young students.
