Recently, fans of HUNTER x HUNTER have been expressing significant concern about the future of the series, following changes in the lineup of Weekly Shonen Jump. After information was posted on the account “@WSJ_Manga,” the editorial team of the manga led by creator Yoshihiro Togashi has feared that it may be discontinued after the latest classification update from Weekly Shonen Jump.
On the official website of the magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump has categorized manga into two types: “works currently serialized” and “works that are on indefinite hiatus.” Currently, HUNTER x HUNTER has been placed in the second category, which includes works that have been completed, on hold, or transferred.
Previously, although the hiatus extended up to four years, Weekly Shonen Jump had not removed HUNTER x HUNTER from its list of serialized works, merely marking it as temporarily discontinued.

In December 2022, HUNTER x HUNTER resumed after just two months following the creator’s return with new chapters. However, some additional information has only revealed that chapter 401 may not continue to be serialized weekly. The announcement stated: “Togashi-sensei will continue to write the following chapters, and the editorial team will continue to support him until the manga is completed.” As of now, it is unclear whether HUNTER x HUNTER will return to weekly serialization in the future.
Previously, creator Yoshihiro Togashi had taken a long break from 2014 to 2016 and resumed just two months ago after taking another year off. In 2018, Togashi halted HUNTER x HUNTER due to ongoing health issues, particularly related to his chronic back pain. The hiatus was only meant to last until July 2022.

On his personal Twitter account, Togashi announced that volume 37 will be released in Japan on November 4, 2022. This new volume includes chapters 381 to 390, but does not reveal the content Togashi is currently working on at this time.
However, the creator still continues to struggle with his health. He shared on Twitter that: “My symptoms have not improved; the treatment and rehabilitation have taken up a lot of my time.”
