The Golden Globe Awards 2023 took place on the evening of January 10 (according to local time), and it was a remarkable event as a Vietnamese actor won the award in the Best Supporting Actor category, marking a historic moment in the industry.
At the Golden Globe Awards 2023, actor Ke Huy Quan delivered an outstanding performance, winning the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Waymond Wang in the blockbuster Everything Everywhere All at Once. He triumphed over many prominent nominees including Brad Pitt and Barry Keoghan, becoming the first Vietnamese actor to receive this prestigious recognition in the film industry.

“Wow… This is truly amazing. Last year at this time, I could only hope that I would get to do this. And when I thought about how it couldn’t get any better, it actually happened. This is truly a great honor, I am grateful and feel so blessed,” said Ke Huy Quan. He also expressed his gratitude to director Steven Spielberg for casting him as Short Round in Indiana Jones when he was just 12 years old, helping him to launch his career in Hollywood.

In Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan plays Waymond, the husband of the main character Evelyn. In his leading role, he presents a charming demeanor, but also possesses an incredibly tender heart. One of Waymond’s memorable quotes from the film is, “In another universe, you still want to be my husband and I want to be your wife.” The film garnered six nominations at the Golden Globe Awards 2023, with Quan winning and Stephanie Hsu also taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress (in the Musical or Comedy category).
