In a recent interview with Vogue about her new film Heart of Stone, Gal Gadot shared her thoughts on the legendary Egyptian queen Cleopatra. According to her, the actress aims to change the perspective on this iconic figure in the eyes of the public.
“If Wonder Woman is a strong female leader in a fantasy world, then Cleopatra is a real person. That is a perfect example of the story I want to tell. Because in the various books I’ve read about Cleopatra, all I see depicted is that she was a woman who exercised power and had romantic relationships with Julius Caesar and Marc Antony,” the actress explained.
However, Gal Gadot wants to portray Cleopatra as someone who is relevant to contemporary times.
“Egypt in general and Cleopatra’s Egypt in particular still have many things that connect us to today. For me, I am passionate about bringing the story of the Egyptian queen to life and giving justice to this character as well as the legacy she left behind,” Gal Gadot stated.
“We have a great script, and I am eager to share this story with the world,” she continued, “It is a completely different narrative, changing the perspective of the audience that Cleopatra was not just a powerful ruler.”
The film Heart of Stone is set to officially release on August 11th.
