Gal Gadot has expressed a renewed sense of strength following the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 by James Gunn. This film was among the first to be scrapped after Gunn and Peter Safran took over management of the DC Universe.
As the Amazonian princess, Gadot has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. Thus, the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 could be seen as a devastating moment; however, for Gadot, it presents an opportunity to “break free” and explore new horizons. In a recent interview with Total Film, the actress elaborated on her excitement about not being confined to a single role and the potential to delve into new genres.

The Israeli star is known for her relentless spirit, even amidst the uncertainty surrounding her career as she plans to pursue her own projects while remaining open to acting opportunities. This reflects the duality in her career, where she aspires to take on multiple roles. Despite her desire to develop new ideas and collaborate with visionary creators, she remains ready for the next phase in her journey.
“I won’t just be focusing on my own projects; I will still work as an actress for hire. The reality is that I can continue and create the stories I love, whether they are ideas I’ve conceptualized or those I find compelling from others interested in working with me,” Gadot shared.
Previously, the third installment of Wonder Woman was officially announced on December 27, 2020, just two days after the release of Wonder Woman 1984. It was anticipated to be the final chapter featuring the return of director Patty Jenkins, with Gadot reprising her role as the iconic character Diana.

However, by December 2022, news about the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 surfaced just a day after Gadot posted about her role on social media. She wrote: “A few years ago, when I was informed that I would be playing Wonder Woman, I was overjoyed because I was given the chance to embody such an iconic character. I’m truly excited to share more about the next chapter with you all.”
The reason for the cancellation is attributed to the next installment not aligning with the future plans of DC. After the restructuring of DC Studios under the direction of James Gunn and Peter Safran, a new direction for the DC cinematic universe is being charted. The most evident change is that this reboot marks the beginning of a new era for the Warner Bros. film slate regarding DC films previously developed under director Zack Snyder.
While Wonder Woman 3 may not be happening, the DC Universe is progressing with ambitious plans ahead. Numerous films and projects are currently in development. Among those are Creature Commandos (release date yet to be announced) and Superman: Legacy, set to premiere on July 11, 2025. While Gadot’s interpretation of Wonder Woman may have reached a “crossroads,” her spirit continues to thrive, and she remains open to embodying the character in future endeavors.
