According to Entertainment Weekly, on the 25th anniversary of Titanic‘s release, director James Cameron revisited many memorable moments from the filming process.
Cameron stated that one of his favorite scenes was when Jack sketches a portrait of the iconic character Rose. At that time, the actress did not wear any clothing, only a necklace called “Heart of the Ocean.”
The director explained that the intimate scene between Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet represented their deep connection, despite societal constraints. The famous line, “Draw me like one of your French girls,” became renowned worldwide after the film’s release.

“I was a bit worried because both actors were so young and free-spirited. The scene felt like it had never been filmed before,” the director shared with EW.
James Cameron mentioned that Leo was younger than he appeared. Cameron had to manually adjust the framing for the young actor to embody the character’s full emotional depth. However, since he is left-handed, the framing had to be adjusted accordingly for the right-handed actor.
“Many people would be surprised by the age difference: the actor playing a 17-year-old is actually 41,” he joked.
The famous portrait of Rose in the film was sold at auction in 2011 for $16,000. In several interviews, Kate Winslet mentioned that she felt uncomfortable selling the iconic painting, as many people believed it perfectly captured her likeness.

Additionally, Kate Winslet noted that there were many moments in the film that symbolized more than just the intimate sketching scene. Everyone should not focus solely on one aspect of the film, as it is rich with details. Therefore, she struggled with watching the scene again. “Rose” even humorously signed her name on the portrait when fans requested it.
Currently, the actress still feels connected to the sketching scene and the painting from the film. On the program The Graham Norton Show, Kate mentioned her daughter was horrified when she saw the portrait of her mother. A friend had told the young actress, “I’ve seen your mom’s naked back.”
