In a recent interview with Ilagan Sports, actor Lee Jung Jae, who plays the lead role of Seong Gi Hun in Squid Game, revealed that the production process for the upcoming season will take significantly less time compared to the first season.
“Squid Game 2 started filming in the summer and the shooting process could last about 10 months. In the first season, we filmed during a similar timeframe, but the progress was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Season 2 has a larger scale and will take much less time to complete,” the actor stated.
Lee Jung Jae is unsure of the exact release date for Squid Game, but he mentioned that Season 2 is likely to premiere in 2024.
Regarding the main plot of Season 2, Lee Jung Jae shared that the storyline will revolve around Gi Hun’s conflicts with Hwang In Ho (played by Lee Byung Hun), the mastermind behind the games in Season 1. These two characters will be central figures in Squid Game Season 2. The following episodes will also delve into the hidden secrets that In Ho conceals after he kills his own brother.
According to Bloomberg, Netflix spent $21.4 million on the first season of Squid Game and earned $891 million along with 2.2 million subscribers, setting a record for “the most profitable show ever.”
