In Chapter 1 of the anime Boruto and Chapter 1 of the Boruto manga, we see the young ninja Boruto Uzumaki engaged in a fierce battle with Kawaki. During this time, Boruto has a scar on his face, leaving many people to wonder about the cause of this scar. Now, in Boruto Chapter 78, the mystery behind why young Boruto has a scar on his face is finally revealed.
1. Kawaki Injures Boruto

In Boruto Chapter 77, Kawaki has transported Hinata and Naruto to another dimension. When Boruto arrives, Kawaki intends to take down all Otsutsuki members, including Boruto himself.
Now, in Chapter 78, Kawaki begins to seriously injure Boruto. During Kawaki’s battle with Boruto, Sarada suddenly appears at a critical moment. After that, Sarada faces off against Kawaki, despite warnings that she should not interfere in this fight.
Ultimately, Kawaki still manages to attack Sarada, forcing Boruto to move quickly to help his friend. Although Sarada remains safe, Boruto’s face has been injured due to Kawaki’s relentless assault.
2. After Boruto is Injured, Momoshiki Has an Opportunity to Take Control
After Kawaki successfully injures Boruto, a group of characters including Shikamaru, Mitsuki, Konohamaru, and Sasuke arrives at the scene.
While Mitsuki and Shikamaru try to counter Kawaki’s movements, Sasuke’s sword attempts to restrain Kawaki. This creates a golden opportunity for them to confront Kawaki.
However, Momoshiki begins to take control of Boruto’s body once again, giving Kawaki a chance to escape.
The ironic thing here is that even though Kawaki wants to eliminate all Otsutsuki, including Boruto, Momoshiki is actually helping Kawaki. This leaves Kawaki confused, not knowing why Momoshiki is acting this way!
Before Chapter 78 of the manga concludes, Momoshiki states that Boruto has lost one of his eyes. Following this, Momoshiki warns that this is just the beginning, and Boruto will lose everything very soon. Momoshiki also emphasizes that this condition cannot be reversed.
Momoshiki states: “The end has begun.”
Considering the current situation, Boruto has already lost his father and mother, and soon he will also lose his brother – Kawaki. What will he lose next?
3. The Condition of Boruto’s Eye in Chapter 1
In Chapter 1, Boruto Uzumaki’s eye is initially shown to be normal. Eventually, when he opens it, the eye turns out to be the Jōgan.
So, is Boruto’s eye supposed to be the Jōgan after being injured starting from Chapter 78? How will Boruto be able to awaken the Jōgan? We will have to wait for answers to these questions to be revealed in the future.
In the anime, Boruto has occasionally been shown to be able to manifest the Jōgan, but this unique eye has not been highlighted in the manga.
Recently, in Chapter 78, when Boruto’s injured eye opens again, it appears to transform into the Byakugan, indicating that Momoshiki is currently controlling Boruto’s body.
The interesting thing is that after this injury, Boruto may only be able to use his Jōgan… or if this eye turns into the Byakugan, it will be a sign that Momoshiki is monitoring Naruto’s son.
