On the morning of December 9th, Facebook users worldwide discovered that the social media platform was experiencing an outage. Specifically, the information section just below the posts, typically displaying the time, date, or location, was not displaying as usual. Instead, it showed a random string of characters, numbers, and special symbols. This string was nonsensical and did not repeat.

Currently, the issue only appears on the Facebook website. Users of this social media platform on mobile devices do not seem to be experiencing the same outage.

According to reports from the outage tracking website Downdetector, many users from various countries have reported the outage. Users indicated encountering issues on the website, particularly with the failure to display the time, date, and specific information of the posts, causing confusion.

This is not a major outage, but it has caused several disruptions in user experience. Specifically, users are unable to check the time and location when posts are made. Some account holders are concerned due to the random strings that seem to make Facebook feel like it’s been hacked recently.
