Currently, the beloved animated film franchise from Disney-Pixar, Cars, has released two installments: Cars (2006) and Cars 2 (2011). This summer, Cars 3 is set to premiere globally with exciting new content and more vibrant visuals than ever before. This was recently confirmed through the teaser trailer that was unveiled.
The story of Cars 3 begins with the confrontation between Lightning McQueen and a new generation of race cars. After suffering a severe injury, McQueen suddenly finds himself out of the racing scene he loves. To get back on track, he needs the help of a young racing technician named Cruz Ramirez. Together, with inspiration from the legendary Fabulous Hudson Hornet, McQueen will prove that the iconic #95 car still has what it takes to win the Piston Cup.
The Cars franchise has brought Disney-Pixar enormous success, generating over $1 billion in revenue worldwide after the release of the two previous films. It has won multiple awards, including the prestigious Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature and the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature as well as several other accolades, including various Oscar nominations. Cars 3 is expected to continue this trend and succeed at the box office when it officially debuts worldwide in 2017.
Cars 3 will continue to feature the voice of Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen. Additionally, the film will be directed by Brian Fee. This is Brian’s first time leading a project in the Cars franchise, although he has extensive experience as a storyboard artist for the previous two installments.
