The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is currently undergoing a significant transformation, introducing a new generation of superheroes that are fresher and more relevant than ever. Ant-Man is no exception to this trend.
Although the character of Scott Lang, the Ant-Man, will continue to be a vital part of the MCU for the foreseeable future, Marvel Studios is already preparing to transition this superhero role to a new generation. The spotlight is now on Cassandra “Cassie” Lang, Scott Lang’s daughter, who is also set to play an essential role in the upcoming blockbuster Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, which premieres on February 17th.

The trailers released for Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania reveal the “Lang family,” including Scott, Cassie, Hope Van Dyne, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne, as they are inadvertently drawn into the multiverse and face challenges that threaten their reality. Here, they must confront a variety of formidable foes, including Kang the Conqueror, the main antagonist of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
As mentioned earlier, Cassie Lang will not be a supporting character as she was in previous Ant-Man films. In fact, it is Cassie who creates the device capable of sending signals to the quantum realm. Besides joining forces with Ant-Man and the Wasp, Cassie is also expected to don her own superhero suit in the upcoming blockbuster. Given the design of her suit, it’s likely that she will transition into the character of Stature in the near future of the MCU.
How Does Cassie Lang Become Stature in the Comics?
Cassie Lang first appeared in Marvel comics in 1979; however, she officially became the superhero Stature in Young Avengers #6, released in 2005. Following the death of Ant-Man/Scott Lang, Cassie decided to take up the mantle and sought to join the Avengers to honor her father’s legacy and to assume the responsibilities he left behind.
She even teamed up with Kate Bishop to head to the Avengers Mansion to join the Young Avengers team. Unfortunately, a series of events led to Cassie continuously having to grow in size uncontrollably. Afterward, Scott Lang’s daughter, who possesses the ability to manipulate her size, had to navigate this power for several years.
Shortly after, Cassie had to harness her abilities in real combat when the villain Kang the Conqueror attacked the Avengers Mansion. This was also when she decided to adopt the name Stature for her superhero career. Although in the comics, Cassie has died multiple times only to come back to life, she has also worked alongside other iconic superheroes (notably as Stinger), but Stature remains the title most closely associated with her, especially in relation to the Young Avengers, making her a notable character.
The Powers of Stature
The powers of Scott Lang/Ant-Man mainly revolve around size manipulation, allowing him to shrink or grow at will. Wasp also possesses similar abilities, along with the added power of flight. All these powers derive from Pym particles, meaning Stature can also perform similar size manipulation abilities as other superheroes, but with a singular twist!
In the comics, Cassie can change her body’s size without needing to specifically mention her powers. The reason behind this is her ability to develop a unique connection when interacting with Pym particles. Cassie has lost this ability for years. Although she has received a few notable upgrades, it has also caused her to struggle with controlling her powers and changing her size uncontrollably.

As mentioned earlier, Cassie Lang will have a much more significant role in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania than in the previous two Ant-Man films, where she was merely a supporting character and often served as a source of motivation for Scott to undertake his superhero missions.
Cassie Lang also made a brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame during a flashback scene. She is among the fortunate survivors after Thanos’ snap and had to endure five years of grief after the loss of her father. Sources suggest that the upcoming blockbuster will revolve around the emotional journey of Cassie reconnecting with Scott, but that will just be a part of the larger narrative.
Marvel Studios has cast Kathryn Newton to replace Emma Fuhrmann as Cassie Lang in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania. The choice to cast a slightly older actress signifies Marvel’s intention to develop a more robust storyline for Scott Lang’s daughter. In the upcoming blockbuster, Cassie will finally become a superhero, taking on the mantle alongside her father to confront the villain Kang and find a way to escape the quantum realm. The initial trailer shows Cassie as the one sending signals to the quantum realm, causing the Lang family to be drawn into it.
Kathryn Newton’s role in Quantumania will undoubtedly be an emotional one, with intense conflicts throughout her journey to become Stature, while also grappling with the loss and responsibility that come with her family legacy. Most importantly, this film serves as an opportunity for Cassie Lang to reconnect with her father, whom she has missed for the past five years.
The Future of Cassie Lang in the MCU
As stated above, Cassie is one of the core members of the Young Avengers team. Therefore, her growing abilities will likely be revisited in the future of the MCU. Starting from Phase 4, Marvel Studios has not been shy about hinting at the Young Avengers coming to the forefront, with names like Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Eli Bradley (Patriot), Kid Loki, America Chavez, and Riri Williams (Ironheart) becoming noteworthy.
Moreover, following the events of Quantumania, Cassie will also be the only member of the Young Avengers who has faced Kang the Conqueror – a particularly significant character in the ongoing Multiverse Saga of the MCU. Additionally, she is also Kate Bishop’s counterpart in the comics, while also being a key player in the potential Young Avengers film adaptation.
Ultimately, in the comics, Stature is also the girlfriend of Iron Lad, a variant of Kang, who is also one of the founding members of the Young Avengers. This could potentially be one of the story arcs that Marvel Studios explores in the future, as various Kang variants will likely appear throughout different cinematic works, leading to two significant events: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
Scott Lang’s role in Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania is still a major highlight. However, the trailer suggests that Scott Lang may face dire consequences in his efforts to prevent Kang from escaping the quantum realm. Considering the comics, Ant-Man’s demise could serve as the catalyst for Cassie to embrace her superhero identity, ultimately becoming Stature in the MCU.
