In a recent interview, director Chad Stahelski announced that the John Wick film series will be expanded with a Japanese anime adaptation. During his appearance on The Discourse podcast, Stahelski shared detailed information about this highly anticipated project.

Stahelski expressed his enthusiasm for this new creative venture and indicated that they are looking to collaborate with Japanese talent to bring the anime to life. “We are genuinely excited. We are making an anime film because I really love this genre. The anime project will allow us to create stories that can only be achieved within the realm of anime and TV shows, expanding the world more broadly,” Stahelski stated.

According to Stahelski, in the anime world, constructing a universe and action sequences can be quite distinct. However, the director seeks to integrate both aspects, providing fans with a unique experience. “I think, especially in terms of animation, building a universe and action is quite distinct. But if you can manage to blend them and offer fans a combination of both, why not? I find the enticing details appealing, but after six parts, I want to see what can happen in animated series. Therefore, we are trying to bring those elements into animation to truly convey the essence,” he added.

This animated adaptation is not the first groundbreaking step for John Wick outside of the film realm, as the recently released series The Continental has already garnered significant attention. When asked about this new project, Stahelski revealed that there will be another season.

Currently, the creative team is focusing heavily on developing the John Wick anime, ensuring that everything aligns perfectly with the existing film franchise. Directors are committed to ensuring that the anime meets the high standards set by the John Wick films.

Chad Stahelski is currently collaborating with MAPPA to realize Lazarus, a project from the director of Cowboy Bebop. This news has led many to speculate that MAPPA will be chosen to produce the John Wick anime in the future.
