Following the success of “The Monkey King” (2016) during the Lunar New Year last year, fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Lunar New Year film featuring the character “Châu Tinh Trì”. To meet audience expectations, the king of comedies, Châu Tinh Trì, has decided to invest significantly in “Journey to the West: The Demon’s Strike Back”, a sequel to the successful first part, especially as he collaborates with talented director Từ Khắc.
The Lunar New Year film by Châu Tinh Trì is officially titled “Journey to the West: The Demon’s Strike Back” after a series of other film titles currently being circulated, including “Journey to the West: The Legend of the Monkey King” and “Journey to the West: The Legend of the White Snake”…
In the newly released trailer, audiences cannot help but be excited when seeing Tang Seng (Ngô Diệc Phàm) and Tôn Ngộ Không (Lâm Canh Tân) both engaging in humorous antics. The character Tề Thiên Đại Thánh is portrayed with a troubled personality, maintaining a comedic air while Tang Seng appears to be incredibly satisfied. After that, Tang Seng is even humorously criticized by Tôn Ngộ Không, who jokingly states: “Come on, we can’t stay like this…”
The comedic tension between the two masters reaches a climax when Sa Tăng (Mengke Bateer) adds fuel to the fire, advising Ngộ Không to stop being so relaxed and to deal with Tang Seng. Meanwhile, Trư Bát Giới (Dương Nhất Huy) reminds him: “Don’t forget, there are still dangers lurking.” Tôn Ngộ Không, however, expresses disdain and is eager to take action against Tang Seng… Unfortunately, this idea backfires when it unexpectedly turns against Tang Seng, causing comedic chaos to ensue.
At the end of the previous segment, “Journey to the West: The Demon’s Strike Back” (2013), Tiểu Thư (Thư Kỷ) after his death was magically transformed into a golden rod to help Tang Seng (Văn Chương) capture Tôn Ngộ Không. When the masters arrived at the capital, Tang Seng still could not forget the past, leading to comedic scenarios… The golden rod appears to be a significant element in their journey.
This trailer also teases Tôn Ngộ Không’s “cruel” transformation when he appears to be more serious in carrying out his duties, contrasting with the carefree attitude he had in the past. Audiences should expect to see Sa Tăng take on a different persona compared to his original role. Many fans are excited about this new take on Sa Tăng’s character.
Near the end of the trailer, viewers have to laugh as they witness the comedic banter between the two “big brothers” Từ Khắc and Châu Tinh Trì over a culinary competition. Châu Tinh Trì is eager to praise Tôn Ngộ Không’s cooking skills, but Từ Khắc playfully retorts, “That’s just awful, not a culinary masterpiece.”
Explaining this detail, Châu Tinh Trì highlighted, “This trailer is still in the works regarding content and visual aspects. The film’s post-production is still ongoing, but fans can rest assured that we have a lot more in store.” This means that the king of comedies is not yet finished showcasing his comedic prowess, and “Journey to the West: The Demon’s Strike Back” is expected to open a spectacular cinematic journey this Lunar New Year.
The film “Journey to the West: The Demon’s Strike Back” is set to be released nationwide by Galaxy Distribution on January 28, 2017 – just in time for the Lunar New Year celebration.
