The sequel to Finding Nemo – Finding Dory is currently making waves at box offices around the globe, with total earnings for this animated film reaching $322.4 million worldwide. Furthermore, before the end of August, children also have the opportunity to enjoy numerous vibrant blockbuster productions.
1. Finding Dory
Blue tang fish Dory (voiced by popular host Ellen DeGeneres) has lost her family and is determined to find her loved ones. A new adventure begins under the deep blue sea, focusing primarily on Dory rather than the young clownfish Nemo as in the first installment. In addition to Dory, audiences will also be delighted to meet various marine creatures, including the octopus Hank and a whale named Destiny.
2. The BFG (07/01)
The BFG tells the story of the friendship between a young girl named Sophie and a friendly giant living in the land of giants. Both are isolated beings in their own worlds until they meet and quickly become best friends; however, Sophie’s appearance attracts the attention of other giants. Together, they travel to London to inform the Queen about the evil giants threatening their world. The film is slightly whimsical and is directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg, based on the children’s book by Roald Dahl published in 1984.
3. The Secret Life of Pets (07/08)
The Secret Life of Pets is an animated film set in a Manhattan apartment. The main characters are pets that bond closely with their owners. When their owners leave for the day, these mischievous pets create adorable situations, and hilarity ensues. Experts believe this film is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining productions for all ages, delivering moments of relaxation for families.
4. Ice Age: Collision Course (07/08)
Following the antics of the squirrel Scrat as he pursues his acorn, the film sees him accidentally triggering a “call to arms” from outer space to Earth, putting the world in danger of extinction. To save themselves, Sid, Manny, Diego, and other animals must leave their homes and embark on a journey to find a new land. They encounter various new characters along the way.
Despite being the fifth installment in the “Ice Age” franchise, Ice Age: Collision Course is still one of the most anticipated animated films of 2016.
5. Pete’s Dragon (08/12)
Based on a book of the same name by author Tim Crothers, Pete’s Dragon is also a remake of the 1977 film. The story revolves around the bond and adventures shared between a young boy named Pete and a dragon named Elliott.
While Elliott appears in 2D “animated” form, this new version opts for CGI to create this mythical creature. The character of young Pete is played by Oakes Fegley, who is also well-known for his roles in the series Person of Interest and Boardwalk Empire.
6. Alice Through the Looking Glass (08/12)
Alice Through the Looking Glass is the sequel to Alice in Wonderland, directed by James Bobin and adapted by Linda Woolverton. With the return of stars like Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway, the film continues to deliver enchanting visuals filled with vibrant colors. This time, Alice must confront Time, played by Sacha Baron Cohen, in her quest to retrieve the Mad Hatter.
7. Kubo and the Two Strings (08/19)
Kubo and the Two Strings is the third film from animation studio Laika and continues its tradition of using stop-motion animation, bringing forth stunning artistic visuals. The story follows a boy named Kubo, who lives a quiet life in a coastal village. When a spirit from the past comes back for revenge, Kubo must embark on a journey to discover his family’s secrets. Along the way, Kubo meets two companions, Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey), and together they face many dangers while discovering themselves.
