1. Wolverine
First appearing in The Incredible Hulk #180 (1974), Wolverine is a mutant with the ability to heal rapidly and has adamantium fused to his skeleton, making him almost indestructible. He has a complex backstory and, after many years of wandering without a clear purpose, Wolverine joined the X-Men and has been part of several superhero teams, even briefly serving as an Avenger and a teacher at Xavier’s School.
Today: It is truly sad to say that the Wolverine we know is no longer with us. After losing his regenerative abilities, Wolverine sacrificed himself when molten adamantium encased him during a battle with Abraham Cornelius – the scientist behind the adamantium experiments and the Weapon X program.
2. Cyclops
Scott Summers is a mutant who emits powerful optic blasts capable of destroying anything in their path. He was the first to join the X-Men and quickly became the team’s leader. Xavier regarded him as his most prized pupil and like a son.
Today: After absorbing the full power of the Phoenix Force and losing control, Cyclops killed his mentor – his adoptive father, Xavier. Following this, Cyclops was imprisoned and labeled a villain, causing unrest within his own team as he struggled with the consequences of his actions.
3. Hulk
First Appearance: First appearing in The Incredible Hulk #1 (1962), Bruce Banner, a talented scientist, was caught in an experimental gamma bomb explosion, which transformed him into the Hulk. Each time he experiences extreme anger, he turns into the Hulk – a massive creature with incredible strength, often uncontrollable. Although he has been part of the Avengers, he has at times been viewed as a threat to humanity.
Today: In a recent comic series published by Marvel, Bruce Banner has found a way to completely eliminate the Hulk from his being, losing his ability to transform into the monstrous creature. This capability is now passed on to Amadeus Cho. And whatever happens next, we will have to wait for the creators to unveil the story.
4. Iron Man
First Appearance: Tony Stark is a wealthy industrialist and genius inventor who was kidnapped during a weapons demonstration. While held captive, he created a suit of armor to escape, which marked the beginning of his journey as Iron Man. Stark continuously upgrades his armor with advanced technology to protect the world, earning the title Iron Man.
Today: Following the advice of Friday – his AI assistant and main support, Tony has recently married Amara Perera. Currently, Tony is facing financial difficulties along with having to deal with Madame Masque – one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s top 10 villains alongside Spider-Man and his close friend Rhodey (War Machine).
5. Thor
First Appearance: Thor is the son of the high god and ruler of Asgard, Odin Borson, and the earth goddess Gaea. As a child, Thor was raised alongside his adopted brother Loki. Loki often felt jealous as Thor always excelled in everything. Over the months, Thor grew up and proved himself worthy to wield the enchanted hammer, Mjolnir.
Today: Currently, Thor has chosen Jane Foster as the new wielder of Mjolnir – his girlfriend on Earth. Following the events of “Original Sin,” Thor used the enchanted axe Jarnbjorn instead of Mjolnir and lost his left arm in a battle against Malekith. Eventually, Jane Foster emerged, wielding the hammer and claiming Thor’s powers. After failing to reclaim the hammer, Thor gave up his name and role. He continues to operate as a superhero under the name Odinson, using the axe Jarnbjorn and an artificial arm made from uru metal (the material used to forge Mjolnir).
