Recently, BBC Culture announced a list of the 25 best films of the 21st century. This list was compiled by 177 of the most prominent film critics from around the world. Below, we present the first part of this list.
25) Memento

Memento is a psychological thriller produced by Newmarket Films. Released in 2000 and directed by Christopher Nolan, it is based on a short story by Nolan’s brother titled “Memento Mori.” The film features a narrative structure that alternates between a linear storyline and a reverse chronological order. These two “intertwined” narratives create a compelling story by the end of the film.

The Master is a drama film produced by The Weinstein Company, released in 2012. The film features performances by renowned actors such as Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Amy Adams. It revolves around the story of Freddie Quell, a World War II veteran struggling to adapt to post-war society.

Caché is a French film that explores themes of surveillance and paranoia. The story centers on a couple who find themselves haunted by mysterious videotapes that capture their daily lives.
22) Lost in Translation

Release Year: 2003

Lost in Translation is a romantic comedy-drama written and directed by Sofia Coppola, released in 2003. It features actors Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson and tells the story of the unexpected relationship between an aging actor and a recent college graduate in Tokyo.
The film received critical acclaim and garnered four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Coppola, and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Murray.
21) The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel is a comedy-drama film released in 2014, directed and written by Wes Anderson. Inspired by the works of Stefan Zweig, the film follows the story of a hotel concierge and his protégé as they get involved in a series of misadventures.
