In her recent appearance on Variety’s Actors on Actors program, Jenna Ortega revealed intriguing details about the second season of the hit series Wednesday. The 20-year-old actress surprised fans by asserting that the show will shift away from romance, focusing instead on deeper psychological themes.
“We have decided to explore the psychological aspects of the series more extensively. Because this is a very appealing theme and with elements like ghosts, werewolves, and superpowers, you don’t want everything to become too serious,” Jenna shared.
Alongside delving into psychological elements, Jenna expressed excitement about her character, Wednesday, stating that she doesn’t need to conform to any romantic relationships. Previously, in the first season, Wednesday was involved in a love triangle with Tyler Galpin and Xavier Thorpe. This dynamic was a challenge for the young star, who believes it detracted from the character’s essence and development.
Additionally, for the second season, Jenna Ortega has taken on a more prominent role as a producer and has been more vocal throughout the filming process.
“We have introduced a lot of new ideas, and I am the one driving those changes; I always want to know what’s happening,” Jenna continued. “With a character like Wednesday—someone beloved and iconic—I truly do not want to misrepresent her. Therefore, I strive to engage in as many discussions as possible. On set, we always collaborate to see what works best.”
As of now, Netflix has yet to announce a release date for Wednesday Season 2.
