Christy Carlson Romano Discusses Early Fame and Its Impact on Child Actors
In an interview with Fox News, Christy Carlson Romano shared her personal experiences of rising to fame at a young age after voicing the main character in the animated series Kim Possible. According to her, the actress did not consider herself a public figure but rather a “person of the community,” yet she was still affected by the challenges and “humanization” struggles faced by many in Hollywood.
Specifically, the 39-year-old actress opened up about the pressures she encountered as she began her career at such an early age, particularly in terms of personal finance. She also reflected on the decisions made in her past that have influenced her current life.
“I’m very introspective and reflective,” Romano noted while discussing the challenges faced by other young actors. “I feel very motivated and empowered because I realize these conversations are still ongoing. These are the people I consider my community.”
“I don’t mean to say that everything has changed in Hollywood. I think for me, any change at the core level, everything will stay the same. We are still studying the information about how children have been treated in the film industry. This is not something that happens in a vacuum, nor is it something we can simply overlook. This is a larger issue, and I’m not sure what we need to do, but I’m sure we have choices,” the actress continued.
The reality is that many young actors have fallen into the pitfalls of early fame. A notable example is Macaulay Culkin, the star of Home Alone. After gaining fame from this iconic series, Culkin completely stepped back from the spotlight due to the overwhelming pressures of fame at a young age, which also led him to struggle with substance abuse. Fortunately, after a long hiatus, the actor eventually recognized the mistakes he made and worked on improving his personal life.
To avoid the same struggles and pitfalls, Disney star Christy Carlson Romano has decided to advocate for better treatment of young actors in the future.
