Since last year, the news of Park Seo Joon joining The Marvels has excited his fans immensely. In the film, he plays the role of Prince Yan, a character from a new musical planet who must sing to communicate. However, upon the film’s release, many fans expressed their disappointment, feeling let down by the actor’s brief appearance. Some viewers reported feeling disappointed after watching the film, while others lamented that Park’s role in this film was too short and limited. According to statistics, Park Seo Joon’s total screen time in the movie is less than 3 minutes, while the film itself has a runtime of 105 minutes.
This situation becomes even more significant considering that the South Korean actor was cast quite prominently, and prior to the film’s release, South Korean media had widely reported on his entry into Hollywood, creating high expectations for Park’s performance in this film.
In response to the reactions from the online community, Park Seo Joon revealed that he accepted the role in The Marvels to escape the safe confines of Korean productions and to experience an entirely new environment as an actor, leading to limited screen time.
“I am truly happy to be part of this film,” Park Seo Joon stated in an interview.
Moreover, the production team of The Marvels was very impressed with Park’s work ethic and attitude during the filming process, which took place throughout the film’s production. Despite his limited screen time, Park still put in all his effort and creativity into his role.
Following the discussions about Park’s role in his Hollywood debut, many people expressed their support for the actor. Online communities praised Park Seo Joon for being willing to take on personal challenges despite any difficulties, emphasizing that whether his screen time was 3 minutes, 30 minutes, or 3 hours should not be a concern. Some noted that even with 3 minutes of screen time, “there’s still room to shine” due to the fast-paced production process of Marvel films, which often focuses on expanding the storylines of main characters, leading to other characters receiving less screen time. However, it was acknowledged that Park made a significant impact with his role, marking a successful entry into Hollywood.
The year 2023 has been a busy one for the 34-year-old South Korean actor. Specifically, Park Seo Joon recently completed filming for Jinny’s Kitchen in February, followed by the Netflix drama Dream, and the horror film Concrete Utopia in April. In September, he wrapped up filming for another Netflix project, Gyeongseong Creature, before participating in various promotional activities and fan meet-and-greets in the Philippines and Thailand.
Park Seo Joon’s management company stated: “Park Seo Joon is always striving to showcase different facets of his talent. He is set to break into new areas of performance in his upcoming projects.”
